At the Trail Head
Years ago on a trip to Hawaii, we found ourselves searching for the southern most tip of the Big Island. We had rented a jeep and took it across trails and down roads that we weren’t sure were really roads. At one point all you could see in front of you were sweeping plains, being blown by the wind to distant darker bluffs. We knew the Pacific Ocean was just over those bluffs. Low and behold, as we drove closer, there it was along with a sign that read, “The southernmost tip of the United States of America”. This watercolor is inspired by that memory.
